Zanzi Cocktails Club: Elements Jazz Afrofunk in Paris 8th

Musicians

  • Arnaud Quercy — piano
  • Elliot Langlois — double bass
  • Romain Courty — drums

African cocktails and a hidden speakeasy buzz set the scene at Zanzi Cocktails Club, the short-lived hideout on avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie in Paris' 8th arrondissement. For a run of nights in November and December 2021, Elements Jazz debuted a brand-new afrofunk repertoire here, opening the venue's launch and turning the cocktail room hot, as one caption put it, Thursday after Thursday. The core trio of Arnaud Quercy on piano, Elliot Langlois on double bass and Romain Courty on drums laid down the groove.

Across the five documented dates, the band welcomed guests including drummer Anael Noury and guitarist Adrien Uduwana, with Pierre-Alexis Courty also sitting in for the pre-opening night. The set leaned hard into funk and afrofunk energy while keeping a Parisian wink alive through standards like Cole Porter's I Love Paris. Now closed, Zanzi remains one of the band's punchiest late-night residencies.
