On place Parmentier in Neuilly-sur-Seine, just west of Paris, Restaurant Gustave is the kind of warm, low-lit dining room made for close-up jazz. Here Elements Jazz played around its core — Arnaud Quercy on piano, Elliot Langlois on double bass and Romain Courty on drums — a stripped-back, conversational line-up that lets the standards breathe, with guest-star guitarist Jeremy Quentin adding colour on the night.

Swing, a little bossa nova and the occasional blues from the group's working book of Ellington, Jobim and Cole Porter drifted across the tables: an intimate evening of acoustic jazz as the soundtrack to dinner.
